Description

i-Foria, founded in December 2023, is an innovative start-up aiming to revolutionize the recycling of waste from absorbent hygiene products (AHP), such as diapers and adult incontinence pads. Through a proprietary technology, with three patents filed and one in development, i-Foria has developed a safe and efficient system to turn this waste into high-value secondary raw materials, addressing environmental challenges.

AHP waste represents 4% of urban solid waste, and in areas with advanced separation, it can account for up to 40% of residual dry waste.

i-Foria’s technology ensures complete sterilization, removes pharmaceutical residues, and enables efficient separation of materials like cellulose, plastic, and super-absorbent polymer, ensuring both environmental and economic sustainability.

With the Horizon project called ICARUS, i-Foria aims at demonstrating that its technology can also be used to valorize the cellulose waste that clogs wastewater treatment plants (WTTPs)

i-Foria focuses on B2B channels, targeting EPC contractors who purchase licenses or territorial exclusivity to access its technology. These partners build waste treatment plants to serve municipalities, local authorities, and waste operators seeking solutions to improve recycling and reduce costs for citizens.

RECYCLING OF PERSONAL ABSORBENT PRODUCTS (PAP)

RECYCLING OF PERSONAL ABSORBENT PRODUCTS (PAP)

i-Foria was founded in December 2023 as an innovative start-up with the aim of revolutionizing the recycling of waste from absorbent personal products (PAP) and cellulose from wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). With a unique proprietary technology, three patents filed and one in development, i-Foria transforms this waste into secondary raw materials (SRM) of high economic and industrial value, solving environmental challenges. PAP waste represents a significant challenge: - 4% of municipal solid waste - Up to 40% of unsorted dry waste in areas with advanced separate collection - 30,000,000 t/year globally - 8,500,000 t/year in Europe - 900,000 t/year in Italy i-Foria technology: - Solves traditional technical challenges - Produces MPS that meet EoW criteria - Ensures sterilization and removal of drug residues - Enables efficient separation of materials - Meets high environmental and health standards - Ensures economic sustainability thanks to the value of MPS

CELLULOSE RECYCLING FROM WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANTS (WWTP)

CELLULOSE RECYCLING FROM WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANTS (WWTP)

Within the Horizon ICARUS project, the objective of Demo Case 2, coordinated by i-Foria and Acciona, is to set up a demonstration plant for the recycling of PAP and waste cellulose (from toilet paper), which currently clogs wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). In this context, i-Foria develops innovative solutions for recycling and efficient waste management, with positive impacts on the environment and industrial processes. The main objective of ICARUS is to recycle waste materials from selected process industries to achieve circular and sustainable industries, going beyond their final destination in the construction sector. The project will foster the adoption of circular solutions, contribute to the development of skills in this area and connect the value chain between industrial actors, recyclers, public authorities and standardization actors.
