Founded on the crossroad between research and businesses, it is in continuous dialogue with the training and education community to encompass the demand for high skills in all production sectors. 

At the core of the Emilia-Romagna innovation ecosystem is the DAMA Data Manifattura Emilia-Romagna Technopole located in Bologna - an international hub for Big Data and Artificial Intelligence - connected to a regional system that includes other 11 Technopoles across the region, 7 national and international research centres, 7 universities with over 180,000 students, 3,900 PhD candidates, 2 European agencies - EFSA and ECMWF with a major Data Centre, 102 among accredited industrial research laboratories and innovation centres - gathered in - the Emilia-Romagna Technology Network -– employing over 1800 researchers. 

In Emilia-Romagna, there are also 36 among incubators and startup accelerators, 11 Clust-ER - specialized sector-focused associations, including Muner MotorValley University of Emilia-Romagna and the Big Data Association - made up of more than 800 public and private entities operating in the most important regional supply chains, and more than 50 international networks and partnerships.

At the centre of the innovation ecosystem, ART-ER - Attractiveness Research Territory has holds a central role as the gateway for organizations driving innovation in the region.
