Description

Inspired by the geological carbon cycle, Limenet is fighting climate change industrializing a technology to remove carbon dioxide into the sea by transforming it into calcium bicarbonates. These bicarbonates remain stable in marine water for up to 100,000 years and contribute to contrast ocean acidification by increasing seawater alkalinity. Limenet's technology will generates negative high quality carbon credits certified under ISO 14064-2 by and external party which are then sold on the voluntary carbon credit market to companies that wish to offset part of their CO2 emissions.

Limenet's innovative carbon sequestration technology

Limenet's innovative carbon sequestration technology

The patented technology of Limenet consists of 3 modules: a gasifier, a calciner, and a mixer. In the Limenet process, the two main raw materials are calcium carbonate and organic material. Through an industrial process involving the use of an oxycombustion gasifier and an indirect calciner, biogenic CO2 contained into any organic material that would eventually being emitted due to degradation, and calcium carbonate are transformed into a more reactive element. Subsequently, these two raw materials are conveyed into the mixer where, using seawater, a natural chemical reaction is replicated, namely the transformation of CO2 into calcium bicarbonates. These calcium bicarbonates are ions, meaning they are not visible in water, and once injected into the sea, they help counteract ocean acidification.
