A territory expressly dedicated to nature, protected for more than a third of its extension (with 3 national parks, a regional park and numerous natural reserves) and very heterogeneous - from the 2,912 meters of height of the Gran Sasso, to 133 kilometers of the Adriatic coast. The main regional production chains are the Automotive sector (composed of a group of globalised companies, both large and small and medium-sized, operating in the mechatronics sector), the Pharmaceutical sector (which includes companies of European importance with significant turnover and interesting export shares), the Aerospace sector, which boasts in Abruzzo a tradition of technological excellence based on high specialisation in the communications, avionics, cyber security and space sectors, Agrifood, which plays an important role in terms of employees and companies including turnover and export, and emerging Logistics, in terms of employees and turnover.

A vibrant manufacturing ecosystem in which universities and research centers also gravitate, which is gearing up to face, despite some criticalities and resistances, the challenges of the green, industrial and digital transition by focusing on extended collaborative systems at the base of entrepreneurial, cultural, organizational and institutional paths of innovation.
