Description
A territory focused on sustainability in all its forms; protected for more than a third of its extension (with 3 national parks, a regional park and numerous natural reserves) and highly heterogeneous from the Gran Sasso (the highest peak of the Apennines) to the 133 kilometers of Adriatic coastline.
At the same time, Abruzzo is, in terms of industrial intensity, one of the leading manufacturing regions in Europe, with a high rate of industrialization, a vibrant entrepreneurial fabric, and a solid manufacturing ecosystem, in addition to a considerable pool of technical and management expertise, oriented toward investing to support competitiveness and growth.
The main regional production chains are the Automotive sector (composed of a group of globalised companies, both large and small and medium-sized, currently engaged – at various levels – in addressing the crisis affecting the entire sector across Europe), the Pharmaceutical sector (which includes companies of European relevance, with significant revenues and notable export shares), the Aerospace sector, which boasts in Abruzzo a tradition of technological excellence based on high specialisation in the fields of communications, avionics, cyber security and space, and the Agrifood sector, which plays an important role in terms of employees and companies including in terms of revenue and exports.
A regional ecosystem that also includes prominent Universities and Research Centers, which is attempting to tackle – not without some challenges and resistance – the green, industrial, and digital transitions by focusing on collaborative systems that support innovation paths, including cultural, organizational, and institutional innovation.
