Description
Terna is the company that manages Italy's national high- and extra-high-voltage electricity transmission grid and is the largest independent grid operator (TSO) in Europe. It has an institutional, public service role in guaranteeing the country the transmission of the electricity it needs and the proper functioning of the entire national electricity system: it carries out planning, development and maintenance of the grid, as well as guaranteeing 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, the balance between electricity supply and demand through the operation of the electricity system.
In the world of energy, Terna plays a strategic role as an enabler of the national electricity system, promoting new ways of consuming and producing based increasingly on renewable sources to achieve the objectives of an energy transition that is fair and inclusive, while also reducing costs. Thanks to its overall vision of the electricity system and new digital technologies, Terna guides the country's path towards decarbonisation to deliver clean energy to future generations.
