It is called Open Innovation and is the new way in which the most modern companies respond today to their research and development needs to keep up with the speed of action that the current competitive context requires: no longer through internal departments, but through the meeting with existing economic actors, primarily with innovative startups and the related ecosystem of incubators and accelerators.
Open Innovation model is gradually gaining prominence in Italy, as shown by the Observatory established by SMAU, together with Assolombarda and Italia Startup. According to the Observatory, Corporate Investors are 7.635 (+ 2.504 in two years) and 2.329 startups are already affiliated of a company with share capital, ideas and knowledge. A dynamic that no longer involves only large companies (408), but also and especially small (4,363) and medium (588) with significant growth rates, making Corporate Venture Capital a reality. In the last year: the small enterprises that invest in startups record a + 22%, + 20% the medium-sized enterprises, + 17% the big enterprises.
